What kind of misfuel issues do we help with?

We'll get you straight again if you've either put petrol in a diesel vehicle or diesel in a petrol one. As a national 24/7 fuel drain emergency call-out service, we'll get you moving again in good time. Once you've approved our quote – a fair, fixed one – we'll endeavour to be with you within the hour to drain your fuel tank, fill it with the right fuel, and see you safely on your journey. The work itself usually takes a around half an hour and we do it all with no recovery fees, no sky-high dealership man-hour charges.

We'll also come to your rescue if you:

• Run out of fuel and have air in the fuel system as a result, and potentially a flat battery too. We provide fuel at forecourt prices so you don't get stung financially
• Have put water or AsdBlue in your diesel tank by mistake, because you forgot about the automatic dosing system. The symptoms are very like those you get when you add the wrong fuel, but our fully-trained mechanics know exactly how to tell the difference and what to do to about it. If it's water in the system the fuel filter will probably need to be replaced, something we'll be pleased to do for you at a reasonable cost

Top tips for avoiding a misfuel

Prevention is much better than a cure, of course. It's best not to misfuel at all if you can help it, and fortunately there are plenty of ways to ensure you engage your brain at the appropriate time! Here are our top tips to prevent misfuelling.

• Try to keep your mind on the task at hand, focusing on the need to get fuel rather than your day, your personal life, that meeting you just attended
• Stay conscious of what you're doing at the entry to the forecourt – try to actually notice which is the right pump for the fuel you need
• When you pull up at the diesel pump itself, double check you really do have the right one
• Don't rush. Misfuel mistakes are much more likely when you're in a flap
• Get in the habit of using the same fuel garage or garages, so you become totally familiar with the layout
• Focus on what you're doing. Don't watch other people, get into a conversation or get distracted by anything else
• Check the nozzle on the hose every time, just to be certain. Most of the problems we see involve putting petrol in a diesel vehicle, and that's because the petrol nozzle is small enough to fit in the diesel filler neck. And that's also why it's actually quite a challenge to put diesel in a petrol car
• If you buy a new car, use a hire car or company car, fleet vehicle or lease vehicle, be extra careful – make sure you don't automatically misfuel

Misfueling Advice

If you do find with petrol in a diesel car, no fuel or something that shouldn’t be in the fuel in your car, don’t panic.

• If you have started the engine already - stop and don't restart it. Doing so risks damaging the delicate fuel system components.
• Once you realise your mistake and the vehicle is stopped in a safe place, get out of the nearside if you are on a motorway, stand somewhere safe and contact us straight away.
• After a few short questions you will be provided with a quote, and one of our wrong fuel recovery technicians will be despatched.
• They will aim to be with you within the hour, and just half an hour later you should have the the vehicle back on the road, getting on with your journey.
